Handyman Connection Conference Recap
A businessman went into the office and found an inexperienced handyman painting the walls. The handyman was wearing two heavy parkas on a hot summer day. Thinking this was a little strange, the businessman asked the handyman why he was wearing the parkas on such a hot day. The handyman showed him the instructions on the can of paint. They read: “For best results, put on two coats.”
Hiring a trusted craftsman can be tough these days, but with Handyman Connection you can rest easy knowing they will send you the best craftsmen to complete your project. Since 1991, Handyman Connection has been striving to provide expert, professional handyman services to North America. I can personally speak to the passion this company has for work done right from attending their annual conference this past week.
Handyman Connection Foundation For Success 2018 brought all franchisees together to reflect and celebrate 2017 while inspiring success and focus for the year ahead. Each year, vendors are invited to participate in this celebration, with a variety of activities in place for networking between franchisees and vendors like Service Direct.
As a preferred marketing vendor for Handyman Connection, we love getting face time with our clients and finding new potential clients to work with as well. I always have a blast at the “Fun With Vendors” event, where every vendor is required to bring a game for franchisees to play while learning about the vendor. This eases the awkwardness of walking up and gives a fun first experience to the franchisee. We also had lunch the next day with the franchisees and made ourselves available for more questions and information.
Vendors are also asked to participate in breakout roundtables and discussions for the franchisees to learn from the industry experts. Our VP of Sales, Ryan Bohn, spoke at the Future of Digital Marketing session, where 5 members of different marketing agencies had a chance to speak about where they see digital marketing headed in the future and what the franchisees can do to be ahead of the curve. Ryan had some great points about mobile device dependency and being available for potential customers anywhere online. His talk got lots of laughs, great crowd interaction, and great questions.
Nomophobia (noun) - "A fear of being without mobile device, power source, or service area. Don’t laugh! This is real! People have gone to the hospital over nomophobia!”
-Ryan Bohn, VP of Sales
The best night of the conference in my opinion has always been the awards banquet. I love watching the funny videos of the franchisees, hearing all their progress and successes, and celebrating the big wins. My favorite award of the night has to the be the Project Passion Award. This award is based on submissions from franchisees that include before, during, and after photos of their passion projects with descriptions of the projects and comments from the homeowners. You can really see how much pride and passion they have for not just completing a job, but for ensuring the complete satisfaction of the customer. It was so inspiring, I wanted to hire them right then and there for a few of those awesome projects.
We wrapped up our time with the Handyman Connection family celebrating 70’s style on a boat party!
